The Common Franciscan Novitiate offers a well-rounded program of prayer, ministry, study, community, and leisure. Aspects of the program include:

Enrichment--A large portion of each week is dedicated to classroom work and study.

Prayer--Prayer, both personal and group is an essential part of the Common Franciscan Novitiate schedule.

  • Common Prayer--The Novices pray together nearly everyday. Novices share the responsibility to plan and lead these times of prayer.
  • Hermitage Day--A hermitage day is planned each week. During the hermitage day the Novice is given an opportunity to quietly reflect and pray for an entire day. During the hermitage day Novices are encouraged to use the resources available to them as well as to get out and be in the midst of God's creation.
  • Liturgy--Novices are encouraged to attend daily Liturgy.

AdventCommunity--Another important aspect of the Common Franciscan Novitiate is building community among the diverse personalities that make up theCommon Franciscan Novitiate.

Ministry--Each Novice is expected to spend 6-8 hours in ministry each week with an agency or organization in the city of Joliet.

Leisure--Time to play together and to just be are built into the schedule on a regular basis.

Conferences--Each Novice has a private conference with their Novice Minister each week.
